The grass is always greener on the other side
Simone Stara, 46 years old, lives in Vinovo, a town in the province of Turin.
At the age of 17, following an accident while diving into a swimming pool, Simone hit his head against the bottom and injured his spinal cord at the height of the fifth cervical vertebra, causing him to become a quadriplegic patient.
Paresthesia, arthrosis and arthritis characterize his health condition and, due to his drug resistance, in 2012 Simone decided to try to alleviate his suffering through cannabis therapy, recognized by the Italian state since 2016 for the treatment of various pathologies such as: spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, pain chronic, anorexia, autism or as a treatment for nausea from chemotherapy.
In the same year the Italian government started the production of cannabis inflorescences at the Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant in Florence; however, the quantity of inflorescences produced was around 20 percent of the national requirement such that Simone like several other patients was forced to self-produce his therapy, to avoid turning to organized crime and black market, facing the numerous legal risks that still persist in Italy against patients who self-produce cannabis with a regular medical prescription.
In a global and European context that withnesses the end of cannabis prohibition, Simone fights for a more dignified life and to vindicate his inalienable right of freedom of choice and care against the sops of a state negligent of relief.
